Altidore Hits a Hat Trick In Villarreal Friendly

What Piotr didn't know, is that Jozy has adamantium ankles.

What Piotr didn't know, is that Jozy has adamantium ankles.

Looks like Jozy’s ankle is much better.  Villarreal (with a squad depleted of many players because of international duty) played a friendly on Friday against El San Rafael del Río and Jozy came to play.  He started the match up top for the Yellow Submarine and bagged 3 goals in a 7-1 thrashing. Atta boy.

My Thoughts: El San Rafael are a very small club, and a big Villarreal victory was definitely expected.  That said, while we shouldn’t read too much into Altidores goals, we shouldn’t discount them either.  How many times have we seen American’s abroad fail to produce at all against small teams in friendlies or reserve matches?  Thank God Jozy hit some goals, and I would sell my soul to see highlights of the match, but I’m sure none will turn up.  This has to help Jozy in the eyes of the manager, and hopefully we’ll start to see him get some substitute minutes soon.  I wonder how Nowak feels to have egg all over his face?

In other news, don’t forget that the USMNT takes on Cuba tonight.  Let’s hope the game is more attractive than the Guatemala match (but I’m not holding my breath).

What do you think about Jozy’s friendly success?  Think he’ll see first team minutes soon?

  1. He’ll definitely see some minutes, at least for the first half of the season, since Rossi picked up a small injury, and Nihat will be out for a long time. I’d love to at least see him start in a few games, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be in a sort of “Super-Sub” role.

    Thanks for the news!
