US Men Sunday Action

August 25, 2008
What, you didn't know that Ligue 1 players are required to wear berets?

What, you didn't realize all Ligue 1 defenders were required to wear berets?

Rennes 2 Lille 1

Carlos Bocanegra started and played 83 minutes, before being substituted for an extra striker (Moussa Sow) as Rennes pushed for late goals.  The substitution proved a smart move by manager Guy Lacombe, as Sow scored the second of two stoppage time goals for the home side, giving them a 2-1 victory.

My Thought: Yawn.  Truth is, Bocanegra is probably one of the most consistent performers for the USMNT and his spot is all but guaranteed.  Even if another talented center back climbed up the US depth chart, Bradley could always move Bocanegra to left back and he’d probably fare just as well as Heath Pearce or Jonathan Bornstein.  Michael Parkhurst is probably the closest challenger for a center back spot, but I think he would need a move to Europe before ever really competing for a starting role.

oh yea by the way, I had forgotten that Bocanegra is TWENTY NINE YEARS OLD.  shit.
